Anku Rice Mills

Anku Rice Mills is situated on Mehraj Road. It is not hard to find us if you are driving by. We have a big open area where the trucks pull in. Working with rice is a seasonal thing, so some months are much quieter than others. During the peak, though, it is nonstop. We have people coming in and out at all hours. My cousin works here with me, and we have a few other local men who help out. We don't have a big handbook or rules. We just know what needs to be done and we do it. Sometimes the machines act up, and we have to get creative to fix them since parts take a while to arrive. It is a lot of physical labor, lifting bags and moving things around. Your back might hurt at the end of the day, but you get used to it. We drink a lot of chai to keep our energy up. The office is just a small room with a desk and some old chairs. We don't really use it for much besides keeping the paperwork. Most of the time, we are outside or on the mill floor. It is a humble place, and we are fine with that. We just want to get through the day's work and go home to our families. We've been on Mehraj Road for a long time, and we plan to stay here for the foreseeable future. It's just a regular mill.
