Uttam Tent & Light Decorators

Uttam Tent & Light Decorators is right in the middle of Nala Bazar in the Lakhan Kotri area. This part of town is very old and the lanes are incredibly narrow. It is always a struggle to get our equipment in and out without bumping into someone or something. We deal with both tents and lighting, so we spend a lot of our time untangling long strings of bulbs and testing them one by one. It is tedious work, and your fingers get sore from messing with the wires all day. The bazar is always loud and full of people, which makes the work feel even more chaotic. We store our fabrics on the upper floors of the building to keep them away from the dirt on the street. Because it is such an old area, we have to be very careful with the electrical connections so nothing goes wrong. We don't have a big fancy sign or a showroom. It is just a busy shop with wires and cloth everywhere you look. During the festival months, we are working around the clock and drinking a lot of chai just to stay awake. The walls of the shop are covered in old scribbled notes and phone numbers. It is a messy and loud way to live, but it is what we know, and we have been in Lakhan Kotri for a long time now.
