Malakar Tent House

Malakar Tent House is situated right in the middle of things at Kishangarh, specifically at Bichali Khirki Chowk. The chowk is always a lively place with people coming and going, and our shop is right in the thick of it. We deal with a lot of heavy materials, like the thick wooden poles and the large rolls of colorful fabric used for decorations. Most of my day is spent organizing the warehouse area or checking the inventory of lighting and chairs. It’s a lot of manual labor, moving things in and out, especially when there are several events happening at the same time. The shop floor is usually covered in a bit of sawdust or lint from the fabrics. We have a small table near the entrance where we talk to people about what they need for their gatherings. There is an old clock on the wall that ticks quite loudly, but you can barely hear it over the noise of the chowk outside. The sun hits the front of the shop in the late afternoon, making it quite warm inside, so we usually sit outside on the steps for a bit then. It’s a business that depends on the seasons and the local festivals. We’ve been part of this community for a long time, and the work hasn't changed much over the years. It’s about keeping the gear ready and helping out when the town has something to celebrate.
