Khwaja Cotton Shop

You can find Khwaja Cotton Shop in Naya Bazar. It is one of those old shops that has been around for as long as I can remember. We deal with cotton, mostly for pillows, mattresses, and quilts. If you come inside, you will see big white bags piled up everywhere. There is always a bit of cotton lint floating in the air, so I usually end up sneezing a couple of times a day. Naya Bazar is a very old part of the city, and the streets are narrow and busy with people and carts. We do not have a fancy display window. We just put some of the finished pillows out front so people know what we sell. It is a lot of manual work, stuffing the cotton and making sure it is even. My hands are always covered in fine white dust by the end of the day. The shop has high ceilings and old wooden beams. It stays relatively cool in the summer, which is good. We have a regular set of customers who come back every few years when they need their mattresses redone. It is a steady kind of business. We do not use any big machines, just our hands and some basic tools. It is just the way we have always done it here in Naya Bazar and it seems to work for us fine.
