Yogi Booksewing Works

Our workshop is located at 2485 in Sadumatani Pole, which is right in the Shahpur area of Ahmedabad. It is one of those older parts of the city where the streets are narrow and you can hear everything happening outside. We do booksewing here, which is exactly what it sounds like. It is a lot of hands-on work with machines and thread. The building has been here for a long time and it feels that way too when you walk inside. We spend our days feeding pages into the machines and making sure the bindings are tight. It’s a dusty kind of job sometimes, with all the paper around, but we are used to it. The rhythm of the sewing machines is the main sound in our day. We aren't some high-tech factory; we just do the work the way it has always been done around here. People bring us piles of printed sheets and we turn them into actual books. Sometimes the power goes out or a needle breaks and we have to stop and fix things ourselves. It’s just us working in the pole, trying to finish the orders on time. The neighbors walk by and we say hello, and that’s about it for the day. It’s steady work and it keeps us busy from morning until evening. We’ve stayed in Shahpur because it’s where we know the people and the suppliers. We don't have a fancy showroom, just a place where books get made.
