I work as a waiter here in Dhandhuka. The shop is right at Ekta Society on Padana Road. If you know the area, you know we are directly opposite the government hospital. It stays busy because of that. People come over from the hospital after long shifts or while they are waiting for news. You see a lot of tired faces every day. I spend most of my time walking back and forth between the tables and the kitchen. My feet usually ache by the end of the afternoon. The heat in Gujarat can get pretty bad in the summer, so we keep the fans running all the time. It is not a big place, just a local spot where people can sit down for a bit. Dhandhuka is a quiet enough town except for the traffic on the main road. I have been doing this for a while now. I know most of the regulars who come in from the neighborhood. We don't have fancy menus or anything like that. We just serve what we have. Sometimes the kitchen gets backed up and people have to wait, but they are usually okay with it. I try to keep the tables clean and the water glasses full. It is just a normal job. I like that I get to talk to different people every day. When the day ends, I just close up and head back home like everyone else around here.
