Teacher

Being a teacher in Fatehnagar, Paldi, means my days are always filled with the sounds of the neighborhood. My place is right here in Ahmedabad, and it is where I spend most of my time preparing materials and grading work. It’s not a big school building or anything like that. It’s just a lived-in space where the shelves are overflowing with books and old notebooks. Some of the books have been around so long the pages are turning yellow. I usually sit at a small wooden desk that has seen better days, but it serves its purpose. Outside the window, you can hear the vegetable sellers calling out and the motorbikes zooming past on the narrow streets. Paldi is a busy area, but this corner of Fatehnagar stays somewhat calm. I don’t have a fancy website or a big marketing plan. Most people just know me by word of mouth in this part of town. I keep a calendar on the wall to track the days, though I usually forget to cross them off. There is always a stack of papers to get through and a pot of tea sitting somewhere. It’s a simple life focused on the work at hand. I like the routine of it all, even when the humidity makes the ink smudge on the paper. It is just a regular house turned into a workspace where the focus is on learning and quiet effort every day.
