Hotel Chicago

Hotel Chicago is located right in Ellisbridge, over at F/1 Banas Apartment. It’s across from SLU College, so we see a lot of students and parents walking around all day. It’s an older building, and we’ve been here for a while now. It’s not one of those massive hotels with a thousand rooms and a fancy fountain. We’re just a small place where people can stay when they’re in Ahmedabad for work or visiting the college. The rooms are basic but they do the job. Sometimes the air conditioner makes a bit of noise, or the stairs feel a bit steep after a long day. We spend a lot of time checking people in and out, making sure there are fresh towels and that the light bulbs aren't burnt out. It gets pretty hot in Gujarat during the summer, so we’re always making sure the fans are working. We don't have a big staff, just a few of us who take turns at the desk. We know the local shops around here if guests need anything we don't have. It’s a bit of a quiet existence most of the time, punctuated by the noise of the traffic outside. We just try to keep the place tidy and help people find their way around the city. It’s just a regular hotel run by regular people. We keep the ledger by hand mostly because the computer is temperamental and likes to crash when we have more than three check-ins.
