Being in Sector-22 of Gandhinagar means it is pretty quiet compared to the main city. We are located in Block 79/2, which is one of those J-Type buildings you see all over this area. It is a very green neighborhood with lots of trees, which is nice when you look out the window while on a phone call. Our office handles life insurance, which basically means we spend our whole day looking at papers and typing data into the computer system. The office has that specific smell of old files and ink. We have a water cooler in the corner that bubbles loudly every time someone fills their bottle. Most people who come in are local residents or government employees from the nearby offices. They sit across the desk and we go over their forms together. It is not a very exciting job, but it is steady. We have a routine where we go for a walk during lunch to get some fresh air. The desks are a bit crowded with staplers, pens, and stacks of folders that never seem to get smaller. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit there talking until the generator kicks in. It’s just a group of us trying to keep the records straight and making sure the claims are processed correctly. The walls are a pale cream color and we have a few potted plants that we forget to water sometimes.
