General Electronics & Controls

We are set up at C-71 in the GIDC Estate, right on Ambica Nagar Road in Odhav. Anyone who works in this part of Ahmedabad knows how the morning commute feels with all the rickshaws and transport trucks. General Electronics & Controls has been part of this landscape for a good while. Our workspace isn't anything you would see in a magazine, but it’s practical for what we do. We have got our benches lined up and the tools are always within reach, even if they aren't always exactly where they belong. The air is often filled with the smell of solder and the sound of machines from the units next door. We spend a lot of time looking at control panels and wiring diagrams. It can be tedious work, but we have a good rhythm going. Lunch is usually a quick affair, sometimes shared together if we aren't too swamped. We’ve had to fix the roof a couple of times after the monsoon rains, and the walls have a few scuffs from moving heavy crates. It’s just the way an industrial unit is. We don't have a fancy lobby or a lot of staff in suits. Most of us are in work clothes and focused on getting the orders out to the GIDC customers on time. It is steady work and we are glad to be doing it here.
