We operate out of shop number 5 in the Marutinandan Complex over in Bopal. We are right beside the Sarkari Tubewell and near the H P Petrol Pump. It’s a landmark that most people in Bopal recognize. Our space is mostly a large kitchen and a place to store our catering equipment. We do a lot of cooking for events all over the city, but this is where it all starts. There are big pots for dal and huge pans for rice stacked up in the back. We spend our days planning menus and getting ready for the next job. Sometimes we have to load up the truck at four in the morning to get to a venue on time. It’s hard work and involves a lot of lifting and carrying. We don’t have a fancy showroom. If people want to talk to us, they usually come to the shop and we sit down with a notepad. We’ve been doing this for a long time, so we know how much salt to put in a massive batch of vegetables without even thinking about it. Bopal has grown so much since we first moved into this complex. There used to be more open fields, but now there are buildings everywhere. We stay busy with local functions and religious gatherings. It’s a practical business. We focus on the food and making sure there’s enough for everyone at the party. It’s what we know how to do and it keeps us very active every single day of the week.
