Our small office is located at Khanchi Kot Maidan in the Arghakhanchi district of Nepal. It’s a bit of a climb to get up here, and the air is much fresher than in the bigger cities. We focus on power projects in this region. The office itself is quite basic, with just the essential tools we need to monitor what’s happening on the ground. We have a few maps pinned to the walls and some old wooden desks that have seen better days. It can get cold in the winter, so we usually have a small heater running or we just wear extra sweaters while we work. We see a lot of locals walking by the Maidan, and sometimes they stop in to ask about the local electricity or just to chat. We don’t have a flashy entrance or a receptionist; you just walk in and one of us will be there. The internet can be a bit spotty because of the mountains, so we sometimes have to wait for things to load. It’s a different pace of life up here compared to the industrial hubs. We spend our time checking reports and making sure the equipment is behaving. It’s a lot of practical, hands-on work. We just stay focused on keeping things running and making sure the lights stay on for everyone nearby. It is quiet work but someone has to do it.
