Out in Mavilpatti, on South Street, we have our small setup at 2/81. This is the Pudur Block Tnsrlm Women Farmer Producer Company Limited. It’s a long name for a group of women who mostly just want to make sure their families can keep farming. The office isn't much to look at, just a door on a quiet street where we gather to talk about seeds and sales. We started this because doing everything alone was getting too expensive and difficult. Now, we use the space at 2/81 to store some supplies and keep our records in order. It’s not always organized; sometimes there are more bags of grain than there is room to sit. We don't have a big staff, just the local women who take turns helping out with the management side of things. The South Street location is convenient because most of us pass by it on our way to the fields anyway. We spend a lot of time discussing the rains and the pests, as that’s what really matters to us. There isn't any corporate talk here, just plain conversation about what's growing and who’s buying. We try to keep things simple and honest. If a machine breaks down, we fix it together. If the market is down, we wait together. It’s just the daily life of a farmer here in Mavilpatti.
