Our place, Aruppukottai Vastra Weavers Producer Company Limited, is located at 1/823 Amma Nagar in Kattangkudi. Around here, weaving is what people have done for a long time. We decided to put this company together so the weavers could have a bit more say in how things are sold. It’s a lot of work involving threads, looms, and making sure the patterns are right. The building in Kattangkudi is where we gather to check the stock and talk about the orders coming in. It’s not a fancy factory, just a place where the work happens. Sometimes the machines act up or the yarn isn't the right shade, and we have to spend the whole day sorting it out. That’s just part of the trade. We aren't looking to become some massive brand; we just want the people who do the weaving to get paid what they’re owed. It’s a quiet kind of work most of the time, just the sound of the looms. Everyone in Amma Nagar knows someone who works with us. We don't do much in the way of advertising. Most of our business comes from people who know the kind of work we do. It’s a simple life focused on the craft. We try to keep our overhead low and just focus on the weaving. It isn't always easy to compete with the big mills, but we keep going because it’s what we know how to do best.
