If you walk down Bajanai Kovil Street in Pillaiyarkuppam Village, you’ll see our place at No. 22/A. We are the Pavathri Women Farmer Producer Company Limited, but around here, people just know us as the ladies who are always working. The building is right near the Bajanai Kovil, so we hear the sounds from the temple while we’re working on our accounts or sorting through produce. It’s a small space, and it gets pretty hot in the afternoons, but we manage. We aren’t experts in business or anything; we’re just women from the village who decided to try working together because it seemed easier than doing it alone. There’s usually a few of us sitting on the floor going through piles of papers or checking the quality of what’s been brought in from the fields. Polipakkam is a quiet post, and things move slowly here, which is fine by us. We deal with whatever the season gives us. Sometimes the crop is good, sometimes it’s not, but we still show up at No. 22/A to figure it out. We don’t have fancy signs or a receptionist. If you come by, you’ll probably just find one of us with a ledger and a cup of coffee, trying to make sense of the week's numbers. It’s basic, hard work, but it’s our work and we just keep at it day after day.
