We are over at No.1/9 North Street in Melkaranai. Our village is part of the Vikravandi area in Villupuram. The group is known as Kanai Collective Farming Farmer Producercompany Limited. Most of us living here on North Street have been involved in farming since we were young. Melkaranai is a place where everyone knows everyone else. We started this collective so we could pool our resources. It makes sense for us to buy things together and help each other with the transport. Life in Villupuram revolves around the farm cycles. We spend most of our time out in the fields and only come to the office when there is paperwork to sign. The Kanai Collective Farming Farmer Producercompany Limited is just a way for us to be official. We don't have any fancy mission statements or marketing plans. We just want to grow our crops and make sure we can sell them at a decent price. Sometimes we sit around on North Street and discuss the problems with the water or the new types of seeds available.
