The workshop here at Harirampur Aurai Road in Bhadohi is usually quite loud with the sound of looms and people talking. Most of us have lived in this area our whole lives, so working at Rishi Rugs Pvt.Ltd. feels pretty natural. It is not some big fancy operation with glass walls. We just have a lot of floor space for the weaving and piles of wool tucked into the corners. Bhadohi is known for this kind of work, and we are just another part of that long history. Some days the dust gets to you, especially when the fans are blowing hard during the summer months. We spend most of our time checking knots or moving heavy rolls of finished pieces from one side of the room to the other. It’s physical work and your back starts to ache by four in the afternoon. People stop by the office to talk about orders or just to grab a cup of tea. We don't have a big marketing team or anything like that. Usually, it's just the owner or one of the supervisors answering the phone while trying to sort out a shipping delay. The building itself is plain, just like the others on this stretch of road. We focus on getting the rugs finished and out the door so we can start the next batch. It is a simple way of making a living, and we’ve been doing it this way for quite a long time now.
