About Tasvira Carpets – Housewares & Supplies in Varanasi
Down here in Khannapur, things move a bit slower than in the big cities. Tasvira Carpets is basically just us working out of our space near the post office box 158. We’ve been around this area for a long time, and everyone knows where we are. It’s a quiet place mostly, which is good for focusing on the details of the work. We spend a lot of time on the floor, looking at patterns and making sure things look okay. It’s dusty work, to be honest. You get used to the smell of the materials after a while. We don't have a flashy showroom with bright lights. Most of our stuff is just stacked up waiting to be sent out. Sometimes we sit outside and have tea when the sun isn't too hot. My cousins help out when we have a big load to move. It’s a family thing, really. We don't spend money on advertising because we never felt the need for it. People find us if they need us. The mail comes to the box in town, and we go pick it up every few days. It's a simple way to live and work, and we don't really want it any other way. Khannapur is home for us. When the monsoon rains come, the roof leaks a little in the corner, so we have to move everything to the other side. The floor is concrete and stays cold in the winter. But we have some old heaters that do the trick. We spend most of our time just checking the threads and making sure the colors aren't running. It’s the kind of work that makes your eyes tired by five o'clock. We usually close up early on Fridays.
