Rajghat Basant School

Down by Rajghat Fort, near where the Krishnamurti Foundation is based, you’ll find Rajghat Basant School. It’s a quiet spot, away from the main rush and noise of the city. We have the river nearby, which is nice when there's a breeze, but it also brings a lot of humidity that we have to deal with. The buildings are spread out quite a bit, and people spend a lot of time walking from one part of the campus to another throughout the day. We aren't a typical school in some ways. We don't push the kids to compete in the usual stressful way that you see elsewhere. Instead, things feel a bit more relaxed, though the actual academic work still gets done. The classrooms are simple, with plenty of light coming through the windows. We don't have a lot of fancy decorations on the walls. Mostly, it’s just about the students and the teachers talking through their subjects. We eat our meals together and take care of the grounds ourselves as much as we can. It’s a very grounded way of living and learning. Some visitors find it too quiet, but we like it that way. There’s a lot of focus on just being aware of what’s around you in the natural world. We keep the administration side of things as low-key as possible so we can focus on the daily life of the school. It’s just us here at the Fort.
