St. Xaviers High School

St. Xaviers High School is located in the Tilmapur area of Ashapur, right along the Ghazipur Road in Varanasi. It’s a fairly busy spot because of the traffic heading towards Ghazipur. You can hear the horns from the road sometimes during the quietest lessons. The school building is a familiar sight for anyone living in the 221003 area. We have a decent-sized gate where the kids pile in every morning. Inside, it’s a bit of a maze with different wings for the younger and older students. The walls have some old posters and the floors are made of plain stone that stays cool in the heat. We have a lot of teachers who have lived in Varanasi their whole lives. They bring a very local feel to the classrooms. The playground gets a lot of use, especially for cricket and football after the main classes are done. We have a small office near the entrance where we keep all the files and records. It’s not a high-end corporate style place at all. It feels more like a community hub. We deal with the usual school problems like broken desks or leaky taps during the monsoon. It’s just a place where we try to teach the kids what they need to know. Most of our students come from the families living in Ashapur and the surrounding streets nearby. We just keep things moving as best as we can every day.
