You can find Glenhill School over in Mandaudih, right here in Varanasi. It’s not a huge place, just a decent-sized building tucked away where it’s a bit quieter than the main roads. We’ve been running things for a few years, mostly focusing on the local families who live around this part of town. The morning starts early here with the sound of cycles and parents dropping off their little ones at the entrance. Our hallways are narrow but we keep them clean enough, and the classrooms have enough chairs for everyone to sit. It gets quite hot in the summer, so we rely on the ceiling fans to keep the air moving while the lessons are going on. We don’t go in for big speeches or fancy events much. Usually, it is just the teachers writing on the boards and the kids copying things down in their notebooks. There is a small area for playing, though it’s mostly just dirt and some grass at the edges. During the monsoon, we have to watch out for the puddles near the gate. People in Mandaudih know us as the place that’s been there forever. We don’t change things up too often unless we really have to. The staff knows most of the families by name since everyone lives so close. It is a simple setup, just desks, books, and a lot of daily work to get through before the day ends and everyone heads home for tea.
