Maria Rug International

Down here in Dulamdaspur, life moves a bit slower, but Maria Rug International stays pretty busy. We’re tucked away in Sarroi, and if you aren’t looking for us, you might miss the place. It’s mostly rugs around here, all kinds of patterns and wool piles everywhere. The looms make a steady sound that you get used to after a few days. We started out small, just a couple of us who knew how to weave. Now there’s a few more people helping out. The floors are usually covered in bits of thread and dust from the yarn, but that’s just how it goes when you’re making things. It gets hot in the summer, so we try to get most of the heavy work done early in the morning. We don’t really have a fancy showroom. Most people just see the finished rugs when they’re ready to go. We spend a lot of time checking the knots and making sure the colors haven't run into each other. Sometimes the delivery trucks have a hard time finding the exact spot in Sarroi, but they eventually get here. We aren’t trying to be the biggest company out there. We just want to keep the looms moving and make sure everyone gets paid on Friday. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy. Dulamdaspur is home for us, so we aren't planning on going anywhere else anytime soon.
