Herman Gmeiner School

Herman Gmeiner School is tucked away in Chaubeypur. It’s a quiet area most of the time, except when school is starting or letting out. We’ve got a simple setup here. The buildings are plain, and we try to keep the paint from peeling where we can. It’s a bit of a walk from the main road, but everyone knows the way. Inside, the rooms are filled with the smell of old paper and floor wax. We don’t have air conditioning, so we keep the windows open most of the year. You can hear the birds outside and sometimes the tractors in the nearby fields. It’s a very rural sort of feeling. We have a small garden that we try to keep up with, though the weeds usually win in the end. The staff here is pretty small, so we all end up doing a bit of everything. One day you’re teaching math, and the next you’re helping fix a broken fence. It’s just how things go in Chaubeypur. We don't have a big budget for extras, so we make do with what we have. Most of the kids come from families nearby. We’ve known some of them since they were very little. It’s a slow pace of life, and we like it that way. We just keep doing our thing every day, year after year, without making much of a fuss.
