Global Rug Company

Our workshop is out in Mehboobpur, just off the Jaunpur Bypass. It’s a bit of a trek to get out here, but there’s more space than in the city center. Global Rug Company is mostly just a big shed where we keep the looms and the wool. It’s loud when everyone is working, and there’s always fine dust from the fibers floating in the air. We don’t have any fancy signage or a paved parking lot. You just pull off the road and you’re there. Most of us have been working with rugs since we were kids, so it’s second nature by now. We don’t use any of those big automated machines; it’s mostly hand-work and simple tools. The rhythm of the work is slow because you can’t rush a good rug. Sometimes we sit outside during breaks and watch the traffic go by on the bypass. It’s a simple life. We don’t worry about fancy branding or corporate meetings. We just focus on the wool and the patterns we’ve been using for years. When a rug is finished, it gets rolled up and put in the corner until the truck comes to pick it up. The seasons change, the weather gets hot or wet, and we just keep weaving. It’s honest work, even if it’s hard on the back and hands. We just enjoy the process of making something that lasts.
