If you are in Raopura near Kanakanagar, you might have seen our sign. Shree Jay Shakti Farshan Mart is where we make and sell all sorts of snacks. The kitchen area takes up a lot of the space because we need big vats for frying. It gets hot in there, especially in the summer months. We spend a lot of time weighing out packets of gathiya and sev. The smell of oil and spices stays on your clothes long after you go home. We have rows of plastic containers on the shelves so people can see what we made that morning. The floor is tiled because it is easier to sweep up the crumbs that way. We get a lot of regulars who come in for their daily snacks. Sometimes we have a bit of a line at the counter, but we try to move fast with the scales. We don’t use fancy packaging, just clear bags and some tape. Raopura is a crowded area, so there is always noise from scooters and people outside. We have a small calendar on the wall to keep track of the days. The lighting is just basic tube lights. It isn’t a place for sitting around; people just buy what they need and go on with their day. We keep the shutters up from morning until late evening. It is hard work, but it is what we do here every single day.
