Shekhavati Kirana Store

Being out here near the bridge on Halol Highway means we see a lot of trucks and travelers passing through Vadodara. Shekhavati Kirana Store is right where the road gets wide. It’s dusty most days because of the construction and the heavy vehicles passing by, so I’m always wiping down the counters with a rag. We deal in a lot of bulk items since people around here prefer to buy their grains and pulses for the whole month at once. I started this place a few years back and it’s just grown bit by bit. We have the usual stuff like oil, spices, and soaps. It’s not a quiet place, you can always hear the horns and the engines from the highway. I usually sit on a wooden stool near the entrance when it’s not too busy. My family helps out during the evening rush when people are returning to the villages nearby. We keep the shop open quite late because that’s when the highway traffic is most active. Sometimes someone stops just for a bottle of water or a packet of tobacco. It gets tiring standing all day on the concrete floor, but that’s just how the work is. Vadodara is growing fast, and you can see it right here from our doorstep with all the new trucks coming through. We just try to keep the shelves full and the weights honest. There isn't much more to it than that. I guess we are just a stop on the road for most people.
