Laxmi Sweet & Farsan Mart

Makarpura A Wing is where we’ve got Laxmi Sweet & Farsan Mart. We’re located in the Goyal Industrial Premises Co-Op 18, which means we’re surrounded by all sorts of factories and busy workshops. It’s a very industrial part of the city. We make a lot of farsan and traditional sweets every day. The smell of frying snacks usually fills up the whole hallway of the building by ten in the morning. Workers from the nearby units come in during their breaks to grab a packet of something salty or some sweets to take home to their families. We spend a lot of time weighing things out on the old scales and packing them into plastic bags. It’s a lot of repetitive work, but it keeps us busy through the day. The shop isn’t fancy at all. We have the metal trays lined up with different kinds of snacks. Sometimes it gets a bit dusty because of all the big trucks moving around outside in the industrial estate, so we have to keep the glass cases shut tight most of the time. We’ve been in this part of Makarpura for a long while now. It’s not a place where tourists ever come; it’s just for the people who work around here. We don't have a big team, just a few of us handling the frying and the counter. We don't use any fancy words to describe what we do. We just make the snacks and sell them.
