Jaydeep Pasti Bhandar

We are located at Guru Nanak Dev Nagar 1 on Ajwa Road. Most people around here just call us the pasti shop. I spend my days weighing old newspapers, cardboard boxes, and all kinds of plastic scrap that people bring in. It is a bit of a messy business, but it keeps us busy from morning until sunset. Jaydeep Pasti Bhandar has been here for a good while now. You can see the big piles of paper from the street. Sometimes we get students coming in with stacks of old notebooks after their exams are over. I use the manual scale mostly, it’s what I’m used to. The shop isn't very large, so things get cramped when a big truck comes to pick up the load. My hands are usually covered in ink from the newsprint by lunch. It’s a quiet life on Ajwa Road, just talking to neighbors and sorting through what others throw away. We don’t have any fancy signs or anything like that. Just the name on the front and the piles of scrap. Sometimes it gets hot in the afternoon, so I sit outside on a stool and wait for the next customer to roll up with their bicycle or cart. It is honest work and it helps keep the neighborhood clean of junk. We see all sorts of things come through here, from old magazines to broken electronics. It is just me and a couple of guys helping out. We try to be fair with everyone who stops by.
