Chandani Super Store

Our store is right across from the Sandesh Office in Vadodara. If you are near Vasant Vihar Apartment, you have probably seen our sign for Chandani Super Store. It gets pretty crowded here during the lunch hour because of all the office workers coming out for a break. We keep a bit of everything, from snacks and cold drinks to laundry detergent and spices. I spend a lot of time checking the expiry dates on the packets and making sure nothing stays on the shelf too long or gets dusty. Sometimes it gets quite messy because of the road construction nearby, so we are always wiping things down with a rag. It is a family thing, so we take turns sitting at the counter throughout the day. My nephew helps with the heavy bags and rearranging the back room. We don’t do home delivery with big vans, usually just someone walking over to the neighbor’s house if they are too old to come out. The lights in the shop are a bit bright, but it helps people see the labels better when they are looking for something specific. We see the same faces every morning buying their daily bread and milk. It’s nice to talk about the weather or the news while we bag their items. We don’t have a website or any online presence. We just open the shutters in the morning and wait for the regulars to arrive. It’s a straightforward way to earn a living.
