Bhagwati Sweets

Bhagwati Sweets is tucked away in Vadodara, over in Landge Nagar. If you walk by in the morning, you can usually smell whatever we’re cooking in the back. We use a lot of milk and sugar, and the kitchen gets incredibly hot during the summer months. It’s a small shop, and sometimes the counter gets really crowded when people are coming home from work. We’ve been in this spot for a long time. The floors are a bit worn down from all the people walking in and out. We don’t have a big fancy display case, just the regular glass ones that we wipe down a dozen times a day. My brother and I run the place with a couple of helpers. We aren't trying to be the biggest shop in Vadodara. We just want to make sure the stuff we put out is what people expect. Sometimes we run out of things early, and people get a bit annoyed, but we can only make so much in a day. It’s hard work, standing on your feet all day and dealing with the heat from the stoves. But we like the neighborhood. We know most of the kids who come in for a quick snack after school. It’s a good community to be a part of, and we’re happy to stay right here in Landge Nagar. Mostly, we just take it one day at a time and keep the trays full of whatever we made fresh that morning.
