Bansal Wafers

Our place is in Diwalipura, Vadodara, right near the HDFC Bank. It’s a busy little area and we are right in the middle of it. Bansal Wafers is where we spend all our time. If you walk by, you can usually smell what we are making. It’s a small shop and we have to be careful with the space we have. The fryers are going for most of the morning, and the heat can get quite intense in the back room. We have a few big fans to keep the air moving, but it’s still a warm job. Most of the people working here have been friends for a long time. We talk about the news and the weather while we bag the wafers. The bags are stacked high on the shelves near the front. We don't have a big marketing budget or anything like that. We just rely on the fact that people in Diwalipura know where the bank is and they see our sign. The floor gets a bit slippery with oil if we don't scrub it every evening, so that is how we end our day. It’s a simple life. We make the snacks, we pack them up, and we sell them to whoever stops by. There are no fancy offices or glass walls here. Just a counter, some scales, and the smell of fresh snacks in the air all day long. We have a few plastic stools for customers who want to wait for a fresh batch.
