Ambica Provision Store

Ambica Provision Store is tucked into Sonapur Lane in the Wadi area of Bhandup. It is one of those narrow lanes where everyone knows each other, and space is at a premium. Our shop is packed from floor to ceiling with everything from lentils and rice to soap and matches. We have to use a wooden ladder to reach the stuff on the top shelves. It is a busy little place, especially in the mornings when people are buying things for breakfast or their daily cooking. We don't have a fancy computerized system; we mostly use a notebook and a calculator that has seen better days. The floor is a bit uneven, and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but it works for us. We spend a lot of time weighing out grains or packing small bags of spices. There is always a bit of chatter going on because neighbors stop by not just to shop, but to talk about the weather or local news. It gets a bit chaotic when the delivery trucks try to get down the lane, and we have to move quickly to get the sacks inside. We don't try to compete with the big supermarkets. We just provide what the people in Bhandup need on a daily basis. It is a lot of hard work and long hours, but it’s what we know. You can find us right in the lane, doing what we’ve always done.
