Amar General Store

Amar General Store has been a part of Rangmahal Wadi for a long time. We are situated right near the Swaminarayan Temple, so we get a lot of people coming in before or after their prayers. It is a very traditional part of Vadodara. The shop is filled with all sorts of things—not just food, but also items people need for their homes like light bulbs, string, and basic medicines. I usually open up quite early because the temple crowd starts moving around sunrise. It’s a small shop, and sometimes it feels a bit cramped with all the boxes, but we make it work. I know the 390001 area like the back of my hand. The people here are mostly families who have lived in Rangmahal Wadi for generations. They don't want anything flashy; they just want decent quality and a fair price. I spend a lot of time chatting with the regulars about their families. It’s more like a community spot than just a store. I don't have a computer or any fancy scanners. Everything is done by hand, from the inventory to the billing. Sometimes I forget where I put a specific item, and the customer helps me find it. That’s just the kind of relationship we have here. It’s a simple, honest way to spend the day, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
