Sanskruti A Thali Restaurant

We are located right across from Madhav Nagar Hospital in the Freeganj area of Ujjain. Being on Kshapanak Marg means we see a lot of people coming and going from the hospital all day long. It can be a bit heavy sometimes, seeing so many worried families, but we provide a place where they can sit down for a thali. Our kitchen at Sanskruti starts early because preparing a full thali takes a lot of chopping and boiling. There are many bowls to fill and many rotis to flip. The place isn't very large, and it can get quite loud when the lunch rush starts around one o'clock. We don't have a menu with a hundred different things. We just serve the thali we made for the day. Sometimes the dal is a bit spicier than the day before, or the vegetable changes based on what was fresh at the market this morning. We handle the cleaning ourselves and try to keep the floors dry, even when it’s raining outside in Freeganj. It’s a straightforward business. We don't use fancy words to describe what we do. We just put food on plates and make sure there is enough water on the tables. Ujjain is a busy place with all the pilgrims, but our corner is mostly for the locals and the hospital visitors who need a proper meal. It is just how we do things every day.
