About Traditional Art Gallery – Art & Craft in Udaipur
Bhattiyani Chohatta is a narrow part of town, and that’s where you’ll find our little gallery at number 13. It’s a very old area, and the building feels like it’s been standing since forever. Inside, the space is tight because we have so many pieces tucked into every corner. There are paintings leaning against the walls and small carvings sitting on any flat surface we could find. It’s not like those modern galleries with white walls and lots of empty space. Ours is more like a crowded living room where you might find something interesting if you look long enough. We spend a lot of our time just dusting things off and talking to people who wander in off the street. Some are just looking for shade from the sun, and that’s fine with us. The floor tiles are a bit cracked, and the lighting could be brighter, but it gives the place a certain feel that matches the art. We don’t do big auctions or fancy openings. Usually, it’s just me and a helper sitting on stools near the door, watching the world go by. Sometimes we get a local artist dropping by to show us something new they’ve finished. It’s a slow kind of business, and we like it that way. We don't try to push people to buy things. If they like a piece, they take it. That's about it.
