Pushkar Bistar Bhandar

Pushkar Bistar Bhandar is located over by the Glass Factory, right at number 13. It is not the easiest place to find if you are not from around here, but the locals know us well. We deal with mattresses and pillows and all that kind of heavy bedding. There is usually a lot of cotton fluff floating around in the air, especially on days when we are stuffing new quilts. It gets on your clothes and makes you sneeze if you aren't used to it. The shop itself is quite packed. We have stacks of mattresses reaching almost to the ceiling. You have to be careful walking through the aisles so you don't knock anything over. Most of the work happens on the floor. We sit there with the big needles and thick thread, sewing the edges of the covers. It is slow work but it has to be done right or the cotton shifts around inside. During the winter, it gets very busy because everyone suddenly realizes their old blankets are too thin. We spend long hours then, just trying to keep up with the orders. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to work by the light coming through the front door. We have an old radio that stays on most of the day, playing old songs. It keeps things from feeling too quiet while we work for the local neighborhood people.
