Cgem School

If you are driving along the Guruvayur Road, you will pass right by us in Kecheri. Cgem School is easy to spot because of the gates right on the main stretch. It’s a busy road with buses and cars going back and forth all day long, so we have to keep the front gates closed tight so no one wanders out. The school building is a solid structure that has been standing for quite some time now. We have a decent number of classrooms spread out across the floors. The hallways can get a bit hot in the afternoons, but we have fans in all the rooms to keep the air moving for the students. There isn’t a huge amount of land around the building, so we make the most of the space we have for the kids to sit and eat their lunch. Most of the families who send their children here are from the nearby villages and the Kecheri market area. They like that they can just drop their kids off on their way to work or the market. We use old-fashioned blackboards and the teachers still use plenty of chalk every day. It’s a very straightforward place without any unnecessary bells and whistles. We focus on getting the lessons done and making sure the kids are safe until their parents come back at the end of the day.
