Our office is tucked away in Vazhuthacaud, right behind the Forest Headquarters on Forest C Lane. It is a quiet enough spot at Delta C5, though things get a bit louder when we have meetings about the quarry work. Being in Thiruvananthapuram, we see a lot of people coming through looking for stone for their new houses. Irikkur Granites Private Limited has been around this area for a bit, and we mostly spend our time dealing with the logistics of moving heavy rocks from one place to another. It is heavy work, honestly. You spend your day looking at slabs and checking for cracks or patterns. Some days are slow and we just sit around with tea, but other times the phone won't stop ringing about deliveries. The lane here is narrow, so we have to be careful with where people park their scooters. We don’t have a big showroom with lights and mirrors. It is more of a practical space where we handle the paperwork and talk to the site supervisors. Most of the real action happens out where the stone is actually cut, but this is where we manage the business side of things. It’s a bit dusty sometimes because of the samples we keep lying around. That’s just how it is when you work with granite. We are just regular people trying to keep the supply moving to the construction sites across the state. It’s steady work and it keeps us busy.
