Ambhika Saloon

Ambhika Saloon is tucked away at No 36 on Perumal Kovil Street. We are in the Lakshmipuram area, pretty close to the R C Flat and not too far from Vinayagapuram. It’s a simple shop with a few chairs and mirrors. We opened up here because we wanted to work for ourselves and serve the people in our own neighborhood. The street can get a bit narrow, but there’s usually a spot to park nearby. We do a lot of haircuts and shaves throughout the day. It’s a place where people come to chat as much as they do to get cleaned up. We hear all the local news sitting in these chairs. The floor gets covered in hair pretty fast, so we are always sweeping. We don't have fancy lights or a big sign, just a local spot that's been around for a while. Sometimes the kids from the flats nearby come in for a trim before school starts back up. It gets pretty humid in the afternoons, so we keep the fans going full speed. We’ve known some of our regulars for years now. It’s more about the people than anything else. We try to keep the prices fair so everyone can come by. It’s a small life but it’s a good one. We just keep our scissors sharp and the combs clean.
