Essar Steel Ltd. is located right here in the Hazira industrial belt of Surat. It is a massive area and we are just one part of the whole operation. Dealing with steel in a place like this means you are always surrounded by heavy machinery and a lot of movement. The air always has that faint smell of metal and salt from being so close to the coast. We spend our days tracking orders and making sure the production side is keeping up with what people are asking for. It is hard work and often quite dusty, but that is the nature of the industry we are in. We do not have any polished reception areas or soft carpets. It is concrete floors and metal desks for the most part. Everyone here knows their role and we just get on with it. Sometimes the shifts are long, especially when a big shipment is going out. You see people from all over India working here, which makes for interesting lunch breaks. We mostly talk about the work or what is happening in the local area. It is not a complicated existence. We provide the steel that goes into buildings and bridges, and we take some pride in that without needing to brag. Being in Hazira is just part of our identity now. It is a busy, loud, and productive place to be every single day. We are just people doing a job that needs doing, and we try to do it right without making any big excuses.
