Our shop is at L-1 in the Yash Shopping Center, which is right on the Udhna Main Road in Surat. If you know that road, you know the traffic is constant and the area is always buzzing with activity. We deal in metals, so there is always a lot of heavy lifting and moving things around. The shop isn’t particularly large, so we have to be very organized about how we stack the sheets and rods. Much of our day is spent on the phone or talking to people who drop in to check prices. Metal prices change all the time, so there is always a bit of back-and-forth about the cost. We don’t have any polished sales talk. We just tell people what we have available and what the current rate is. Most of the time is spent coordinating with delivery drivers and making sure the right materials are loaded onto the trucks. The shopping center gets very lively in the late afternoon. We usually have the shutters partially down by that time, finishing up the day's accounts and cleaning up the floor. It is just a normal, local business. We don't have any grand plans for expansion. We just want to keep the shop running well and provide for our families. We know the other shopkeepers in the center, and we often help each other out. It is a good, hardworking community to be a part of.
