Rashid Haircutting Salon

Rashid Haircutting Salon is located in the Sanat Nagar area of Srinagar. We are right at the Sanat Nagar Chowk, which is a major landmark in this part of the city. Rawalpora is also very close by, so we get a lot of people coming from both sides. The shop is small and can get quite cold in the winter months. We usually have a small heater going near the chairs to keep the customers from shivering while we work. It’s a simple setup with a few mirrors and the usual tools of the trade. We don't have any of those expensive machines you see in the big city salons. Everything is done by hand with scissors and razors. The wooden floor boards creak a little when you walk on them. We have a small window that looks out onto the chowk, and I spend a lot of time watching the traffic and the people going about their business. Most of our regulars are men from the local neighborhood who have been coming to us for years. They don't even have to tell us how they want their hair done anymore, we just know. It is a quiet kind of work, and we are happy to be a part of the Sanat Nagar community. We don't make a big deal out of what we do. It’s just cutting hair and making sure people look decent before they head back out into the world.
