Lorial Hair Cutting Saloon

This shop is situated in Rainawari, right in the Jogi Lankar area of Srinagar. It is a local hair cutting saloon that has been part of this street for quite some time. We aren't trying to be one of those high-end places you see on TV. It’s just a place to get your hair cut and maybe a shave. The neighbors know us well. Usually, the mornings are slow, then it picks up in the afternoon. I spend a lot of time sharpening the tools and making sure the towels are ready. Rainawari is an old part of town, and the buildings have character. Our shop fits right in with the rest of them. Sometimes the street gets narrow with all the people walking by, but that's just part of living in Srinagar. If you are looking for a fancy waiting room, we don't really have that. Just some benches and maybe a newspaper from yesterday. I think people like it because it's familiar. We know how the old men like their beards trimmed and how the younger boys want their hair to look. It is just a regular routine. I grew up around here, so I know almost everyone who walks through the door. It’s a small space, but it stays warm enough in the winter months. We just keep things moving and try to be helpful to anyone who stops in. Sometimes the power goes out, but we have enough natural light from the front window to keep working until it comes back.
