Our workshop, Uma Arts, is located at A-66 in Arjun Nagar, right within the Sardarjung Enclave area. It’s a nice enough spot, though the roads can get a bit cramped when people park their cars on both sides of the lane. We do a lot of creative work here, but it’s not the clean, silent kind of art you see in fancy galleries. There’s usually some glue on the tables, scraps of paper on the floor, and the smell of paint or wood in the air. We’ve been in this building for quite a while, and the walls are covered in marks and old sketches. It’s a lived-in space. We don’t have a big showroom for visitors. If someone wants to see what we’re making, they usually just walk into the back where the benches are. We spend a lot of time just fiddling with small details until they look okay. It’s mostly just a few of us working together, and we often have the radio playing in the background to keep things lively. Sometimes we get orders that are a bit unusual, which makes the day more interesting for everyone. We don’t have a grand philosophy or anything; we just like making things and we’re glad we have a place in Arjun Nagar to do it. It’s a bit messy and sometimes we run out of supplies at the wrong time, but we always manage to get by somehow. It's just how the days go here.
