Meera Bhatia

You can find Meera Bhatia at chamber 402 in the Delhi High Court. It’s one of the many offices in this big building, and like most of them, it’s packed with folders and legal binders. There’s a specific kind of energy in the corridors here, especially on Monday mornings when everyone is scrambling. My space is pretty functional. I’ve got a desk that’s seen better days and a couple of chairs for when people need to sit down and talk. There is always a stack of papers waiting to be filed or read. I don't go in for fancy decorations; the law books on the shelves are the only thing on the walls. The window looks out over a bit of the courtyard, which is nice when you need a break from looking at fine print. It gets a bit dusty because of all the construction nearby, so I’m always cleaning off my keyboard. People come in with all sorts of problems, and we just sit down and try to figure out the best way forward. It’s not like what you see on TV. It’s mostly just a lot of reading, writing, and waiting for cases to be called. We drink a lot of coffee to keep going. The walk from the entrance to the chamber is a bit long, but the exercise is probably good for me since I sit so much. I have a small plant on the windowsill that I sometimes forget to water, but it survives.
