Pachim Kaliabor Farmers Producer Company Limited is based in Boraligaon village. We are out in the Misa area, specifically around Nizborbhugia. It’s a rural part of the country where everyone knows everyone else’s business. We started this because we were tired of being taken advantage of when we went to sell our crops. There are about a hundred of us now. We grow a mix of things like paddy and some oilseeds. Our office is just a small building near the post office in Borbhagiagp. It isn't much to look at. The paint is peeling a bit and the fan makes a clicking sound when it’s on. We meet there to talk about which seeds worked better and who needs help with their fields. It’s a community thing as much as a business. We don't have a big strategy. We just try to plan ahead for the next season. The soil in this part of Kaliabor is good, but you have to work it hard. Sometimes the floods come and we lose a lot, which is why we try to stick together. It’s a simple life. We spend our days in the sun and our evenings talking about the market prices. We aren't looking to expand into some giant company. We just want our village to do okay and for the farmers to have a little extra in their pockets. Life here moves slow and we are fine with that.
