Nameri Valley Agro Producer Company Limited is mostly run out of Village Bura Gaonchapori. Madhab Saikia’s house is where we usually get together to figure things out. Being near Lokra means we have a lot of good land, but it also means we have to work hard to keep it productive. We are not trying to impress anyone with big words or polished ads. We are just a bunch of neighbors who decided to pool our resources together. The valley is beautiful but the work is sweaty and tires you out by noon. We grow different things depending on the month. Sometimes the insects are a problem and we have to spend hours checking the plants. It is not a quick way to make money, that is for sure. We use the tools we have and try to fix them when they break instead of buying new ones every time. The office is basically just a room with some chairs and a lot of notebooks. We keep track of the harvests and who contributed what. It is a simple system but it works for us. Most people in the village know Madhab’s place, so finding us is not hard. We just take it day by day and hope the harvest is enough to cover the costs for the year. There is no point in complicating things when the dirt and the sun stay the same.
