Solan is growing so fast these days, but Alpine Public School still feels like a small corner of the old town. We are located right in the heart of the district. The school isn’t some massive institution with hundreds of staff. It’s just a handful of us making sure the doors stay open and the lessons get taught. The air in Solan is usually good, and you can see the mountains in the distance from the top floor. Our classrooms are basic. We have old-fashioned wooden chairs and desks that have had many names carved into them over the years. I think that gives the place a bit of character. We don't use a lot of fancy words or have big meetings about goals. We just look at what needs to be done today. Maybe a desk needs a leg fixed, or we need to order more chalk. The kids come from all over the neighborhood. They’re a noisy bunch, especially when it’s time to go home and they all pour out into the street at once. We know most of the parents by name because we see them at the grocery store or the bus stop. It’s a local school for local families, and we like it that way. No big surprises, just the daily routine of bells, books, and children running around in the sun.
