A. K. S. Public School

Down on Jaunaji Road in Solan, you will see A. K. S. Public School. Solan is a hilly place, so the road winds around quite a bit to get here. The air is usually fresh, which is one of the nice things about being in this part of Himachal. Our school sits right on the side of the road. It is a familiar sight for the locals who drive past every day. We have a modest setup with a few blocks of classrooms. The kids come in from all over the hillside, some walking and some taking the local buses. It is a lot of work keeping a school running in the mountains. We have to deal with the cold winters and the heavy rains that sometimes wash out the paths. Inside, we have a staff room where we sit and drink tea while grading papers. The classrooms have big windows to let in the natural light. We don't have fancy equipment, but we have enough books and materials to keep everyone busy. The students are generally well-behaved, though they get restless when the weather is nice outside. We have been here on Jaunaji Road for a good while now. It is a steady place where we just do our jobs and help the children get through their exams. It is just a normal school life in the hills.
