We are tucked away in the Upper Bazar area of Rohru, which is about 110km from the main part of Shimla. It is a bit of a climb to get here, and the weather can be quite unpredictable. Some days it is perfectly clear and you can see the hills, and other days the mist just covers everything. The school building is right in the middle of the local shops, so there is always the sound of the market nearby. We spend a lot of our mornings just trying to get the place ready before the kids start walking in. Most of them come from the nearby houses or the surrounding hills. It is not a very big school, just a few rooms where we have set up the benches and the boards. We don't have a big playground, so the children usually find space in the local lanes or the small courtyard we have. I usually spend my time dealing with the paperwork or talking to the parents who stop by after they finish their morning shopping. The winters are the hardest part because it gets so cold that we have to keep everyone bundled up. It is a simple life here, far from the noise of the bigger cities. We just focus on getting through the syllabus and making sure the building stays in one piece when the heavy rains come down.
